Gecko control and removalWe treat what brings them in and close their way in, without scare stories

A gecko in the house is startling, and that is understandable. Getting rid of geckos starts with the insects they eat and the gaps they come through, so check off the signs you see and we will tell you the next step.

Finding geckos on the wall or behind the curtain? Or small black droppings on the floor and balcony?

Why is this happening in your home?

Geckos come into a home after food and warmth. Insects like mosquitoes and cockroaches attract them, and gaps around windows, doors, and AC pipes make it easy to get in. In villas and gardens they hide in plants and behind frames and wood, and they stay once they find food.

Why regular spraying does not solve it

No single spray removes a gecko and leaves the cause behind. As long as there are insects to eat and gaps to enter through, another one will come. So the work starts by treating the insects that attract them and closing their entry points, not by chasing them around the room.

The Kaltex method

What exactly we do when we arrive

  1. 1Inspecting gaps around windows, doors, and AC pipes
  2. 2Treating the insects that attract geckos inside and around the home
  3. 3Treating hiding places on the balcony, in the garden, and behind furniture
  4. 4Guidance on closing entry points and reducing lights that gather insects
  5. 5Follow-up on the guarantee schedule to confirm the problem has not returned

What we grew up hearing about geckos

We have all heard the stories: they spit in food, they poison the salt, and if one touches you it leaves a skin disease. That fear is understandable, but we are a pest control company and not a medical authority, so we will not give you a firm verdict on something we are not sure about. What we can say is that reptile droppings in general can carry bacteria such as salmonella, which is reason enough to keep things clean without panicking. If you are worried about your skin or your health, ask a doctor and not the neighbors. The practical steps are simple:

  • Throw out any uncovered food where you found droppings or saw a gecko walking
  • Wash countertops and dishes with soap and water, then use a disinfectant suitable for kitchens
  • Wash your hands well if you touch a gecko or its droppings, and teach your children to do the same
  • Cover food at night, and do not leave your pet's bowl full until morning

How does it get in with the windows closed?

A gecko has a flat body that fits through a narrow gap, and it walks easily on walls, ceilings, and glass. A light left on all night gathers insects for it, so it learns to wait there, and a yellow bulb usually gathers fewer than a white one. So the technician looks at the small things nobody notices:

  • Cracked silicone around the window frame
  • The gap under the balcony door or the apartment door
  • The hole for the AC pipe, if it is not sealed well
  • The exhaust fan opening, and a bathroom window with no screen
  • A torn window screen, or one that does not sit tight against the frame

Found one in front of you right now? Forget the broom

You do not need to fight it. The gecko is more eager to get away from you than you are to get away from it. If it is cornered, its tail may drop off and keep moving for a bit, which is its natural way of escaping. What works and what does not:

  • Close the room door, open the window or balcony door, turn off the light inside, and let it leave
  • If you cannot wait, a container and a piece of cardboard are enough to move it outside without touching it. If you are afraid, leave it and call us
  • Skip glue traps: they torture the animal and can catch a bird or another animal
  • Skip kerosene, hot water, or spraying pesticide in its face. That is dangerous for you before it is dangerous for the gecko

Kids, pets, and furnishings

What we treat is usually the insects and the places they gather around the home, so the kitchen and balcony need to be set up before we start. If you have a baby, someone pregnant, or someone with asthma or allergies in the home, tell us before the visit so we can choose the right method and duration, and ask your doctor if you have concerns.

  • The treatment has no odor, and in most cases you will not need to leave the home
  • Cover food and put away any kitchen items left out before the technician starts
  • If your cat hunts geckos and seems unwell, call your vet and mention it

How to prepare the place

  • Tell us where and when you see it, and photograph any droppings you find before cleaning them
  • Move cardboard boxes and clutter off the balcony and from behind the wardrobes as much as you can
  • Do not seal any gap unless you are sure the gecko is outside, so it does not get trapped inside the wall or the room
  • Tell us if you have cats or birds, and if you also have mosquitoes or cockroaches so the plan can include them

Guarantee certificate

3

years

The guarantee covers the pests treated during the visit. If the same problem comes back within this period, we come and treat it.

Follow-up schedule

  • 10 daysFollow-up visit to confirm the result
  • 21 daysSecond follow-up to treat anything still open
  • Every 2 monthsRegular follow-up for the length of the guarantee

Emergency service if any problem comes back during the guarantee

Written, not verbal

A guarantee with a schedulebeats a longer guarantee

Some companies promise 5 years and others promise 10. The question to ask is: what happens after the technician leaves?

Our answer is in writing. Three follow-up visits on set dates, plus emergency service if a problem appears at any time during the guarantee. The visit after 10 days is not a formality. That is when bed bug eggs hatch, and if it passes without treatment, the infestation comes back.

Questions about geckos

Are geckos in the house dangerous?

Geckos usually do not attack people, and they run as soon as they sense you. The bigger issue is hygiene: their droppings can carry bacteria, so wash surfaces and throw out any uncovered food that got contaminated. If someone was bitten, or feels sick and is worried, see a doctor and do not rely on what people say.

Do geckos poison food?

We will not give you a firm answer on poison. The safest approach is to treat any uncovered food a gecko walked on, or where you found its droppings, as unfit and throw it out. This is a hygiene rule and not a scare tactic, and it applies to any animal that crosses your food. If someone feels sick after eating, they should see a doctor.

How do I get geckos out of my home?

Scents are not a solution you can rely on, and what helps more is reducing insects and closing gaps. There is no strong evidence for eggshells, garlic, or coffee, and mothballs are dangerous for children and pets. Turn off the balcony light when you do not need it, because it gathers food for geckos every night.

Why do geckos show up more in summer?

Because warmth makes them more active, and there are more insects around the lights. In winter they slow down and hide behind wardrobes and in cracks, so you may think they left. If you see fresh droppings in winter they are still there, and that is a good time to close the gaps.

Can geckos be eliminated for good?

If you have plants, insects, and open spaces around you, nobody can promise that no gecko will ever come through again. What we do is remove the reason for it to be inside your home. We follow up with you after 10 days and after 21 days, then every two months for the full 3-year guarantee.

I live on a high floor. How did a gecko reach me?

Geckos climb building facades and pipes easily, so a high floor does not stop them. One can also arrive with a plant pot, a cardboard box, or furniture that was moved. If you have found one more than once, start with the balcony and the AC opening, because they are usually the closest route.
